Growing up in Scotland, Alaska and Canada instilled Hazel’s deep love for the outdoors and nature. As a result of this, plus her many incredible expeditions around the world and her work on climate change solutions, Hazel is passionate about showing we can all achieve more than we ever thought possible, the benefits of physical activity, celebrating the environment and doing all we can to leave our world in a good place for future generations.
Hazel, who is an ‘Explorer in Residence’ for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society and an Arctic guide for the children’s charity, The Polar Academy, alongside her husband Luke, talks passionately about topics such as:
- getting uncomfortable and challenging yourself
- how to achieve more than you ever thought possible
- the physical and mental benefits of being active and adventurous in the outdoors
- the importance of teamwork
- protecting and celebrating the environment
With a love for anything that takes her outdoors, including back-country skiing and long distance multi-day ultra-marathons, Hazel has completed numerous expeditions and challenges.
These include running the 140 mile Ice Ultra on snowshoes in Arctic Sweden, running the 156 mile Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert and climbing Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps.
In 2019 she undertook a month-long ski and filming expedition focusing on the Spring Reindeer Migration in Arctic Norway. Seeing dramatic changes first-hand in these locations and listening to the people who live there has had a huge impact on Hazel and her talks touch on how we can all make a difference to climate breakdown.
At one point Hazel could barely run 5 kilometres. She explores in her talks this journey and how we can all do much more than we believe.
Hazel has delivered presentations for various audiences including, among others, the Royal Scottish Geographical Society, the 2050 Climate Group, school pupils as well as national and international governments and businesses.
Hazel is available to speak individually and also alongside her husband, Luke
