The founder of the EGG (formerly Edinburgh Gossip Girls) phenomenon epitomises the inspirational nature of Speaker Buzz. Four years ago, Kylie set up a Facebook group in Edinburgh where women could swap tips and recommendations for local businesses and restaurants.
After the group flourished through word of mouth, Kylie quit her job as a global sales manager to develop it into a successful business and a thriving online community of more than 14,000 woman.
Now exploring further ways to develop her business both locally and in other cities, Kylie is a force of nature with big ambitions.
In her talks, Kylie addresses theme such as:
- building communities
- creating and establishing a brand
- entrepreneurship
- female empowerment
- work-life balance
When Kylie moved to Edinburgh from Glasgow around five years ago, she was a new mum in a new city, and feeling a little lost. Wanting to get great local recommendations for things such as haircuts, good meals and kid-friendly activities, she set up the EGG Facebook page.
Within a few months it was 5,000 strong, and it became clear that many girls in Edinburgh wanted to connect to other. It also became evident that many wanted to take this thriving online community offline.
This was the tipping point for Kylie; she quit her job as a global sales manager to develop EGG into a business. She introduced an EGG membership card, with members paying a yearly subscription to gain access to curated events and exclusive offers benefitting numerous Edinburgh businesses.
The events part of EGG has flourished. Connecting girls to each other as well as great local businesses, plus the health and wellbeing of the community are the backbone to the event ethos. These include networking lunches with inspirational female speakers, wellbeing talks and discussions, 10k runs and yoga events.
Kylie is most proud of her emotionally supportive events – EGG TALKS on topics such as grief, anxiety, maternal mental health. “For me, these feel like my business ‘lightbulb’ moments, when I just know that I’m on the right path, that I can actually make a difference.”
This year Kylie launched EGG in her hometown of Glasgow and is currently working on some more business opportunities – watch this space.
