Her cosy crime noir series – The Mirabelle Bevan Mysteries – set in Brighton in the 1950s (currently 7 books) has been optioned for television and is currently in development. She has also written 4 historical epic novels set in the early 19th century.

Nowhere is Sara’s fascination with women’s history more evident than in her latest project, ‘ Where are the Women? A Guide to an Imagined Scotland’. The book is inspired by feminist Rebecca Solnit who, in 2016, renamed 36 of the Big Apple’s metro stops after women, rather than the men they were named for in real life.

Sara has written a guidebook to an imagined Scotland where the achievements of real Scottish women are commemorated in buildings, monuments, street names and statues. It’s a fascinating insight into what might have been – and a revelation to read about the many women whose remarkable achievements have gone largely unnoticed.

In addition to her many published books across several genres, Sara has also written for children – her picture book I’m Me has appeared on CBeebies three times and in 2018 she wrote a second picture book with her daughter – a right-to-roam monster story called Monsters Unite.

Sara has also contributed writing to BBC Radio 4’s From Our Own Correspondent, BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour. The Guardian, Huffington Post, the Scotsman and BBC History magazine.

Sara and her daughter Molly, a make-up artist and art director, also founded REEK perfume to memorialise unapologetic women through scent. The brand celebrates heroines, both past and present and its campaigns are 100% authentic, with no retouching – challenging beauty industry norms. REEK also takes pride in its sustainable credentials from its hand-filled perfume to its packaging.

She is also a patron of registered charity Its Good 2 Give, which provides support for critically ill children and their families all over Scotland and is a supporter of The Superpower Agency, which promotes literacy in Scottish schools.
